There are two types of common common computer microphones you can use with your computer: stereo mini-jack and USB. The mini-jack microphone will hook into a round port on the rear of your computer; the USB microphone will occupy one rectangular USB slot.

Of these two types, USB will provide you higher-quality audio, because the cables are shielded against electrical interferances from the power supply and other computer devices.
